| Answer | Templates in Tango are pre-configured layouts that streamline the process of sending rewards. They help ensure consistency, reduce manual errors, and save time by storing your preferred reward settings.
Template terminology
The following terms are commonly used when working with templates:
Term
Definition
Example
|---|
Hard-coded text
Text entered into the digital template's fields that appears the same in every reward communication issued to recipients.
If you're sending the same message to all reward recipients, hard-code the message by entering the static message text into the Message body field.
| |
Dynamic field
Text that changes per recipient based on dynamic tags. See Dynamic tags in Tango below.
If you’re personalizing a message for each recipient, insert the dynamic tag {{message}} into the Message body field.
When sending individual rewards, the value you enter in the Message field overrides any message hard-coded in the template.
| |
Template ID (ETID)
A unique identifier assigned to each digital template upon creation. The standard template ID is E000000.
Your template E004521 can be referenced when sending bulk rewards via the API. See how to Create digital templates.
| |
Print Template ID (PTID)
A unique identifier assigned to each Printed Reward Link template upon creation. The standard print template ID is P000000.
Your print template P001234 can be referenced when sending printed rewards via Tango portal. See how to Create Printed Reward Link templates.
Template categories by delivery method
Tango templates can be categorized by how the reward is delivered:
|---|
Digital templates
Deliver rewards via email or text. Ideal for fast, automated delivery to recipients. Digital templates enable organizations to tailor the recipient experience with customized branding, logos, and dynamic content. See Create digital templates . To preview templates, send a test message, and edit or delete templates, see Manage templates .
| |
Print templates
A physical delivery option where a letter is mailed to US recipients containing a URL, redemption code, and instructions to claim the reward. Recipients can redeem on one brand or split across multiple. Businesses can customize the catalog and branding and send them via the Tango portal or API. This option is ideal for recipients who prefer or require physical mail delivery. See how to Create Printed Reward Link templates.
| |
Bulk digital and printed rewards
Distribute rewards to multiple recipients using an Excel upload via the Tango portal. Each Excel file supports up to 2,000 recipients. You can upload multiple files. Bulk upload supports digital and print delivery, with personalization through dynamic tags. For more than 50,000, separate your large order into multiple files of 50,000 rows or fewer and process each file individually with the bulk upload. See Send bulk digital and printed rewards with Tango.

Template types in Tango
There are different types of templates in Tango: Standard templates cannot be edited or deleted, whereas custom templates are fully editable and tailored to your needs. A default template is the one automatically applied. See more details below:
|---|
Tango Card Standard Template (E000000)
A built-in, system-provided digital template to act as the default fallback when no custom digital template is selected. It ensures consistent delivery and formatting, and cannot be edited or deleted. See Create digital templates .
| | Custom digital templates | User-created digital templates, typically by admins, allow full customization of reward delivery content, including branding, messaging, and layout. Admins can create multiple templates for different use cases, such as campaigns or departments, and assign them to specific users or groups. These templates include dynamic tags for personalization and can be reused across reward orders. Custom templates can be set as the default for the platform, group, or account. | | Printed Reward Link Standard Template (P000000) | A built-in, system-provided print template included on every Tango platform for physical mail delivery of rewards to US recipients. It is automatically applied when placing orders with mail delivery. Unlike the digital standard template, it cannot be set as a default at the platform, group, or account level. It cannot be edited or deleted. See how to Create Printed Reward Link templates. | |
Custom Print templates
User-created Printed Reward Link templates that allow customization of the physical reward letter, including company logo, custom card image, and tailored message. You can create unlimited custom print templates for reuse across orders. Requires Manage permissions on Delivery templates to create and View permissions to use when placing orders.
Tango default template
Tango uses different default template behavior for digital rewards and Printed Reward Links. Digital templates can be assigned as defaults at the platform, group, or account level. Printed Reward Link templates are selected for mail delivery, but they cannot be set as platform, group, or account defaults.

Tango uses dynamic tags as placeholders in its templates that automatically populate with personalized information when a reward is sent. Common tags include {{recipient_name}}, {{message}}, {{from_name}}, and {{reward_link}}. These tags allow you to customize each message without manually editing content for every recipient. For example, using {{message}} in an email template lets you insert a unique message for each recipient during a bulk upload. Dynamic tags enhance personalization, improve engagement, and streamline large-scale reward campaigns. See Use dynamic tags in digital templates for more details.
Note:
Dynamic tags are supported in digital templates only. They are not available for Printed Reward Link templates.
